From Humble Beginings
Jim Thomason was born in the small town of Treasure Island, Missouri on March 6, 1950. He was born to his father James and mother Vera, two farmers trying to make ends meet. Jim grew up with his brother John in this small town learning the ways of his father and dreaming of becoming his own boss like him one day. On Jim's 18th birthday he decided he would take a chance and do something that would change his life forever.
He had heard of Rockford, Illinois as being a place of opportunity and took a chance with the little money he had saved up he bought a car and drove from Treasure Island, Missouri the place he knew all of his life to Rockford, Illinois with the goal of making a name for himself.
Jim started his career in the fastener industry at Sems back in 1968 in the tool room. He went from being an apprentice there to running the maintenance department at Rockford Headed in 1970, working over 60 hours a week.
With his hard work and dedication (and encouragement from his wife Marge) in 1978 he took the $1000.00 they had in their savings and opened his own business, Thomason Machine Works, Inc. With the help and support of his mentors, employees and family Jim is now living the dream he always had, working with his family and being his own boss.
